About
A clearer starting point, with the workings shown.
CasePoint exists because the first hour of a legal problem is spent not knowing what kind of problem you have. We write that hour down, check it against the law, and — if you want — put you in front of someone who can act.
What CasePoint is
A legal information and introduction service for England and Wales, covering two things properly rather than everything thinly: commercial and contract disputes, and professional negligence that causes financial loss — surveyors, conveyancers, solicitors, architects and accountants. The guides are free. The five-minute check is free. Introductions to a solicitor are free to you and made only with your consent.
Who runs it
CasePoint is an independent service founded in 2026 by Craig Miller. It is not owned by a law firm, a claims-management company or an insurer, and it has no financial interest in whether you bring a claim. Contact details are on the complaints and contact page.
How the guides are written and checked
- Every guide is written in plain English to answer a question people actually ask, and explains the law rather than telling you what to do.
- Statutory references are checked against legislation.gov.uk, procedural points against the Civil Procedure Rules and their pre-action protocols, and regulatory points against the regulator’s own published standards (SRA, RICS, ARB, ICAEW, CLC).
- Case law is cited by name so you, or your solicitor, can look it up. We don’t quote figures for what a claim is “worth”.
- Each guide shows a published date and an updated date. When the law changes — a new protocol, a change to the court tracks, a significant judgment — we revise the guide and move the date.
- Guides are reviewed by solicitors on the panel as the network grows. Where a solicitor has put their name to a guide, their name, firm, SRA ID and address are at the foot of it. Where they haven’t yet, the byline says “CasePoint Editorial — not a solicitor”, because that is the truth.
- If you spot an error, email us. We would rather correct a guide than defend it.
What CasePoint is not
- Not a firm of solicitors, and not legal advice. Nothing here takes account of your circumstances or creates a solicitor–client relationship.
- Not a claims management company. We don’t pursue, negotiate or fund claims, and we take no share of any recovery.
- Not a lead-generation business. We don’t sell your details, we don’t contact you unprompted, and no one pays us per enquiry.
How the money works
Solicitors on the panel pay a flat £95 a month. That’s it: no commission, no referral fees, no per-lead charges. Readers can buy a £10 preparation checklist — labelled “not legal advice, but here’s how to prepare” — which organises the documents a solicitor will ask for. Everything else is free. The reason for the flat fee is not only tidiness: it keeps CasePoint outside the referral-fee ban in the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 and outside regulated claims-management activity, and it lets a solicitor disclose the arrangement to you in a single sentence, as the SRA Code requires.
Why only two areas
Because the other areas people ask about — personal injury, clinical negligence, employment, housing disrepair, financial mis-selling — are ones where paid introductions are either banned outright or regulated as claims management. We would rather do two areas honestly than ten areas with an asterisk.
